Scavenger hunts are one
of my favorite activities, especially with Rachel. I particularly enjoyed this list
because of the unique items like a bird's nest and a chewed leaf that
forced us to really explore. We managed 14.5 out of 16. Half because I
saw the bird and Rachel didn't. We couldn't find a baby or a kid's bike.
We started out too late and most other kids were probably home for the
evening.
It was one of those beautiful late summer nights were the sun
is starting to go down, there are wispy pink clouds in the sky, there is
a hush over everything, and it is still warm enough to walk around in a
t-shirt. We saw a bunny in the front yard on the way home. It hopped
through a hole in the fence into the backyard so we sneaked back there
and sat quietly snuggling in the waning light, waiting to see if the bunny would poke his
head out from under the porch. Pretty much my definition of heaven.
The bunny never reappeared, but my little trooper didn't mind. She was perfectly happy to explore the garden instead and see what was growing.
Did I mention that my independent, big girl was getting sleepy and wanted to be carried home? She wrapped her arms around me and laid her head on my shoulder. My back is aching now, but my heart is full.
