Squiggle

If I am to base my childhood (Part II) on observations of my little ones activities for today, I need to kick things more. As adults we bemoan the loss of our childhood energy, yet we want our kids to be able to sit still. Conundrum. Maybe I should teach my child yoga at an early age. Then she could enter a state of peaceful meditation when bored in a doctor's office waiting room.

"I better stop eating like a putz..."

So quote my husband:
"I better stop eating like a putz or my kid will eat like a putz too."

Yes, we are not currently the best example for our future child. Brandon doesn't like those icky green things called vegetables and I can't be trusted with portion size around sugar. And the only time we sit down and eat a meal together (not in front of the TV) is at a restaurant or when company comes over. Time to rethink those habits in favor of balanced meals and family togetherness.

Step 1: More home cooked meals. Per usual, Brandon was craving a pizza yesterday. So instead of giving in to our normal habit of ordering whatever we want, I offered to make home-made pizza. Our budget could certainly use the break and I needed to get back into the cooking habit. I made a few mini pizzas for myself so I could have a variety of toppings like extra veggies, refried beans and soy chicken. Might sound strange, but oh so good! Alright, so I ate my pizzas on the couch watching TV and Brandon ate his while playing World of Warcraft, but this is just step 1!

Step 2: Sit down and eat as a family. Brandon is out of town tonight so I invited my parents over for a home cooked meal. I had fun laying out placemats, napkins, and even a rose for the table. Cooking for others keeps me motivated. No way I'd be sitting down to a meal like this by myself. Now I just need to get Brandon involved...

Step 3: Plan ahead. I need to have pre-cooked meals for lunches and plans for dinner so I can do prep work the night before. Let's see if I can go the whole week without buying lunch. Once upon a time this was a regular habit.

I'm feeling more motherly already! :)

8 weeks, 2 days and counting

Sure there is a lot of responsibility involved in being a parent, but it also gives you a chance to experience childhood all over again. I miss Legos, coloring books, sappy cartoons, and finger painting. Ok...yeah...I'll admit that I still a 4 year old at heart and rarely let adulthood stop me from doing those anyway, but now I have an excuse!

Inspired by a friend's blog for her new baby (due a few days after mine), I've decided to revamp/restart my blog. It will now be devoted to all the fun adventures of my new life as a parent as well as how I'm dealing with all the not-so-fun responsibilities.

Hurry up October 2nd!
