The first thing I'm re-learning from my baby is to sit quietly and enjoy. So much of our lives as adults are about cramming as much into our day as possible or about constant stimulation. The time we used to spend day dreaming or staring into our loved one's eyes is now filled by TV, cleaning, planning, etc. We can't even focus our attention on the beautiful scenery while driving and want the added stimulous of music.
But my darling baby is happy to just be held and stare at me. And I certainly can't get enough of staring at her! It has renewed my awareness of the things around me. I'd grown used to the gorgeous trees and mountains that made me want to move to Washington, but I'm noticing them again. I see my husband and can appreciate how handsome he is or enjoy watching his animation while he talks. I want to just sit and watch the sun rise. But mostly I want to watch my baby sleep or just watch her smile.
